Everyone knows it: Coca-Cola had a huge influence on Christmas and how we picture it today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Coca-Cola stepped in, Santa Claus<\/strong> wasn\u2019t the jolly old man with a sack full of Christmas gifts<\/a><\/strong> that we all know today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In earlier depictions, he was shown in a much less friendly way: no fluffy white beard, no round belly, and a rather stern face instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was only in 1931 that the warm, kind-looking Santa Claus<\/strong> we know today appeared in a Coca-Cola advertisement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the very first time, Santa<\/strong> was dressed in red, the brand\u2019s signature color, with the cozy look of a sweet, grandfather-like figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This version of Santa was created by illustrator Haddon Sundblom, hired specifically for the campaign, who imagined a more approachable, joyful Santa Claus<\/strong> to make him more appealing to consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, Santa has been pictured as a smiling man with a big build, a long white beard and a bright red suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
